We drove to Bolinas today to have lunch with this couple we have met, who we may be able to house sit for at some time in the future. Linda and Bob, very nice people. They are fellow travelers who go on Homelink.org, I think that's how we found them.
The drive there was magnificent. I hadn't driven that way before, it was Hwy 1 from Mill Valley. It went over steep, S curved roads and hills, with stunning views of the ocean. Very windy road, I felt a little carsick. Some of the hills had heather fields running down them. Tried to take a few pictures, but couldn't get the tremendous vista of it. This is also the road to Mt. Tam and Muir Woods, or, one of the roads.
Had a great time with them. They have a little cottage on the inlet in Bolinas, a very funky little town. Jerry Garcia used to live there, as did many other entertainers. Apparently, many screenwriters and people behind the scenes still do, but it's pretty isolated. Oh, Frances McDormand is one, our friends have seen her walking around.
We took a great walk afterwards. Drove up to the hills, and walked through fields near the ocean. Walked through a cow pasture! Obviously free range, as there were no fences. One of the steers sort of blocked Linda and my path, and he wasn't gonna move! The guys came up and finally Dan yelled at him, so he ambled away. The rest of the cows were sweet and just kept eating away. We walked about 3 or 4 miles, couldn't get down to the beach because the road was so eroded. Saw a "communication field" that was once called "RCA Field". It was basically a radio field set up during WW11 originally. By the way, there are old bunkers all along with Marin Headlands, dating back to the War. Interesting. Very nice walk, and it was a beautiful day!
