We spent the entire length of this trip, 700 plus miles, listening to the audio book, Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, we are through disc 22 at this point, with 10 more to go. The trip was uneventful, roads were clear, except for an hour of fog betweeen Cheyenne and Laramie.
We did make a stop in Elko, Nevada, for breakfast, at The Coffee Mug. We discovered this restaurant by accident many years ago, and now time our trips to have breakfast there. It is the best breakfast ever, though the picture does not do it justice. Above is the Mexican Omelet with fresh avocado, and hash browns. The salsa is homemade, and fabulous. The biscuits are not shown, but are also homemade, thick and fluffy. I am not a breakfast person, but i love this place!
Back to the road--it is interesting how the topography changes as you go west. Plains, desert, mountains, desert, snow, and then lush greenery when you get to California. We spent the night Sunday at the same casino/hotel we stayed at last year, the Grand Sierra in Reno, then we went to Ken and Paula Friman's condo in Incline village on Lake tahoe (Lindsey's parents) and spent one night there. I lost some money at the Biltmore casino, and was disappointed to see the changes at the other casino's at the state line. They are all machines and modernized.
Their condo is really nice, and it was a beautiful spot. We are eager to get to our destination, however.
