Everything Asian or Shanghai'd again

Rainy today, a perfect day to go to the Asian Museum in San Francisco and see the Shanghai Exhibit there.
It was a wonderful exhibit with many pictures and much information about Shanghai, mostly from the 1850's to the 1930's, when it was colonized by the British, French and Americans.   They left a lasting impression, and a worldly, sophisticated city.    There was fashion, movies, a lot of art work, furniture, etc.  from this time period.    A really lovely exhibit.
We then toured the rest of the museum, which is huge!   We got really tired, had to just walk through a lot and absorb it, one could be there for days.   It is 3 stories, and includes all of Asia---India, Indonesia, China, Japan, the Phillipines, etc.   Each country has it's own area, and the museum follows the path of Buddhism, as the brochure says.     You could notice the differences in style between the different countries.   I thought the Indian art and the Japanese art were the most different---the Indian art was quite ornate, the Japanese things were more geared to war.    Very interesting!   I was talking to my friend, Trudi, on the phone on the way there, and I kept thinking about her in the museum.   She reads the blog, so Trudi, this is a must for you!
The pictures we included are typical of the beauty of this museum, not only did it include fascinating items, but the displays were magnificent.   One of the pictures is of a Jade display. The entire room had jade objects in it in these glass cases.   The ambience of the museum is very quiet, very serene and calming.   We could not take pictures of the Shanghai exhibit.
In the Shanghai exhibit, they were showing clips from movies made in Shanghai in the 30's.    In one scene, the women were playing---oh yes, you guessed it---Mah Jongg!   But that was the only MJ reference I saw there.
We came home, had dinner and watched some of our netflix movies.   We had 3, couldn't watch more than 10 minutes of 2 of them, and the 3rd one was really bad too!
